The story of how Emily and Ken met and got together is a great “God at Work” story. Even though they both grew up in different cities and at different schools, they first met at a local church in Toronto. Quickly, they became good friends and their mutual friends “just knew that they would be together” (but they didn’t see it coming)!

Soon after, Ken and his family experienced a time of crisis which gave him the opportunity to think about the priorities in his life.  What is truly important?  Even through this trial, Ken could see how God was protecting him and sustaining him.  Then, he started to think about Emily.

He invited her out for a walk at Edward’s Garden to talk about “something important”. It was a romantic Disney-esque walk in the park complete with a golden sunset, ducks, geese, rabbits, and lots of other animals (although no music, singing, or dancing was involved)! Their friends called it from a mile away — they were now officially dating!

One weekend, Emily and Ken stopped by Niagara-on-the-Lake while they were en route to their church retreat. Emily noticed that Ken was acting strange and that he had made dinner reservations at The Oban Inn Spa Restaurant — she knew something was up right away since, as she likes to say, “we never eat anywhere fancy”! Sure enough, after dinner, Ken proposed and she said “Yes”!

The next morning, at the retreat, Emily’s roommate wakes up and screams, realizing that Emily is engaged! The other girls thought the scream sounded like someone was about to be murdered and rushed to the room to see what was wrong. They were definitely surprised to find out that the scream they heard was actually a scream out of excitement :)
